How To Make Your Child’s Summer Awesome

How To Make Your Child's Summer Awesome

Since I have become a mom I have found myself constantly thinking and relating to Disney movies and Nickelodeon cartoon’s and I have to say… I seriously feel like Olaf lately from Frozen! I am SO excited for SUMMER! “A drink in my hand, my {body} up against the burning sand…Prob’ly getting gorgeously tanned, In summer” – I am sure you ALL know that song like I do by now. 🙂 The sun and hot weather makes me so excited for pools and family vacations! We can just hardly wait around here!

As adults, honestly not much changes for us in Summer! We are still moms. We still have to clean. We still have to cook. We still have to take care of our families. BUT for our children – it is such a magical time of year! School is out, the weather is nice and free time galore! As mom’s of these cute kids, it is OUR responsibilities to make the magic happen! SO today I want to share with you a few fun ways to make your child’s Summer AWESOME!

I remember my mom always made our Summer’s so much fun! In fact, majority of my favorite childhood memories when I look back, are moments we shared together as a family during Summer break! Now that I have a little one, I want to make sure that she gets the most out of this time of year too, so I have come up with a Summer Bucket List for us today! You can even download it here to print off a FREE PRINTABLE of the Summer Bucket List!

So, there are TONS of fun things to do, but how will we ever accomplish them all?! Here are three helpful tips to make your Summer successful:

1. PLAN OUT YOUR DAYS: If you go into Summer knowing you’ve got a plan – it will be so helpful! If you have your list of things you want to do, make a daily schedule. I think routines are always a good thing to stick with – in fact, I have created a basic schedule here that you can print out and use the sticker method with, as shared here. Now, this is based on a toddler, so it might work for some of you, but not all of you. You of course can use that as a platform though and form it to your children’s needs. Here is a FREE PRINTABLE of a SUMMER SCHEDULE!

2. BE FLEXIBLE: Always remember that things come up, so you will need to be flexible. I experience this on a daily basis {as I am sure most of you do}! 🙂 You may have a plan and list of things you are going to accomplish, but if you go into it knowing that someone might get sick or a dirty diaper may need to be changed… life will be a lot less stressful!

3. MAKE A MEMORY A DAY: I love to wake up every day and think of what I am going to do that will be fun for Laila. It may be something like going to the library or going for walk… or it might be as little as coloring with her or reading her a book. I suggest spending at least a few minutes every day, trying to do something that you know they enjoy. Even though Laila won’t remember these days of her life, I will. Some of the best days with her are when I put my phone in the other room, close the computer and just follow her around. Babies are actually hilarious sometimes and very entertaining. Most importantly, always remember, “The best thing about memories, is making them!”

I hope as we all prepare for Summer with our children – no matter how old they are – that we make it a special time of year for them! Print off the bucket list or Pin it for later so together we all can make EVERY day, the BEST day for our families this season!

What do you like to do with your children in the Summer? I would LOVE to hear from you!

We try to plan our camps early and then plan everything else around it. A lot of our summer is spent at the pool, swimming and having fun. We just tend to go with the flow and relax.

I think the best part of summer is winging it! Of course, as a kid, I loved the freedom to read all day. 🙂

I definitely agree Maggie. I loved when I was a kid and could do anything my heart desired.
