Whatever Makes You Happy Mama

My name iMoriah Boudousquie @miah_shine_15 – My joy comes from my son Beckett and husband Geoffrey. Who make every day The Best Day. I also enjoy making art for friends and getting inspiration from the outdoors. Im a student, artist, and mother.

It was 6:00am on August 17th and we were walking to the delivery room to have our baby boy. So many emotions were felt and I had a million things on my mind.

They start me on Pitocin and the contractions start. Turns out I had been having them for awhile, but couldn’t feel it.

This is when I got cocky…. I told my husband how this was going to be easy(LOL) and I didn’t need an epidural. All he said was, “Whatever makes you happy Mama.”

About an hour later… I am being stabbed in the back, getting an epidural. And man did it make me happy! A few hours later we had our son.

About 2 weeks go by and our good breastfeeding baby boy decided he only wanted a bottle. I was shattered. First, I got an epidural to bring him here, and now he wouldn’t even let me feed him?! Wasn’t I supposed to be able to bring life to this world and care for it? I was meant to do this! After struggling through hour feedings every hour and a half for 2 days I had had enough. I go to my husband broken, crying for help.

As he feeds our son a bottle, he asks me if I remember what he told me in the hospital. And in the moment of frustration… of course I didn’t(mom brain).

He said he could tell, because I wasn’t doing it. He said, “Do whatever makes you happy Mama.”

He told me that I can only change what I can control. And I wasn’t doing anything to change my happiness. There was a fix to this problem and it was going to be okay. After a hug and some tears… I decided to make a change. PUMPING.

Now I could go into detail on my experience with breastfeeding, formula, and pumping. Because we have done them all. BUT that is not the point. The point is, I was exhausting myself trying to make my baby do something he didn’t want. And I was losing. I was losing precious time, energy, happiness, and let’s be honest… my MIND.

Any method you go, is correct.

Natural birth, medicated, c-section – CONGRATULATIONS you are a Mother!

Breast feeding, formula feeding, pumping – CONGRATULATIONS you are a good Mother who feeds her baby.

Whichever way you get it done, is perfect. Yes no way is easier than the other. The grass isn’t any greener on any other side. TRUST ME I have been to all of them(when it comes to feeding).

“Do whatever makes you happy Mama.” You deserve all the happiness in the world. And that goes for when you are taking care of others. As soon as I stopped telling myself to not “give in to the easy way out”, I was the happiest Mama I have ever been.

My son is healthy and happy, and so am I. Technology and medicine has advanced for YOU. Don’t be put down because you feel weak, we all feel weak. Don’t be disappointed because you didn’t do it on your own, there are other people on this earth for a reason. They are here to help you and make your life easier. And you are here to bless their life too.

SO you go and “DO what makes you happy Mama.”
