Hey You!!

Welcome to Week TWO of our 10 Steps To Friendship Program!! I sincerely hope that you took the time the past 7 days to really think about your Friendship List that we talked about in Step One. I absolutely LOVED seeing so many of you writing out your lists and even sharing them on Instagram! Every time I got tagged in one, I literally got CHILLS!! This is such an incredible journey to be on with you & I am excited for what is to come!

I have received HUNDREDS of messages throughout the week from ladies that are participating in this program all over the WORLD! We have Besties ranging from the United States to the Philippines to South Africa to the UK and I LOVE IT!! You are incredible people.

Before we move on to Step 2, I wanted to remind you to NEVER stop working on Step 1. Your Friendship List is going to be an ongoing list that will change and mold through each season of your life. Through different things that you go through and different stages that your life will present to you, the attributes & characteristics that you need in a friend will absolutely change. For example, right now you may need a friend that is a really good listener. But a year from now, you may need a friend that you can belly laugh with until you cry. Never forget your list. Never stop changing and growing and working on the woman that you want to become.

The coolest thing about our Friendship Lists, is that light attracts light. We have all heard the quote, “Your vibe attracts your tribe.” And it is SO TRUE when it comes to friendships. If you need a friend that is kind – be kind – because a kind friend will want to be with you too. If you need a friend that is spontaneous – be spontaneous – because a spontaneous friend will want to be with you too. And so on & so forth.

I know as we work on becoming the friend we would like to have, we will prepare ourselves to meet a new friend veryyyy soon!

Okay. Now. Are you ready for Step TWO in our 10 Steps To Friendship Program?

Let’s do it.

Step Two: The Elevator Pitch

You may be familiar with the term “elevator pitch” in business or you may be wondering why in the world we are talking about elevators when we are trying to make friends. HA! Well, let me explain!

The definition of an elevator pitch when asking google, it states:

“An elevator pitch is a brief, persuasive speech that you use to spark interest in what your organization does. You can also use them to create interest in a project, idea, or product – or in yourself. A good elevator pitch should last no longer than a short elevator ride of 20 to 30 seconds, hence the name.”

In other words, this week we are going to work on writing a 20-30 second “About Me” little spiel for you. And oh my goodness – this is so important for two different reasons!

Reason Number One: Because it is SO important before we go out and try to meet a new friend to KNOW WHO YOU ARE. Let me say that again – it is SO important before we go out and try to meet a new friend… to KNOW. WHO. YOU. ARE.

The thing we have to remember about being a friend and having friends – is that it is so important to be YOU. Don’t try to be someone else. Or try to do something or say something just because you think it will get you “in” with the “in-crowd.” I have been there and it is a hard road to go down. BE. YOU. You are perfect the way you are. You have had experiences that will help so many others. You are worth so much more than trying to be someone else. There is someone out there that needs YOU just the way YOU are.

And Reason Number Two: is because this will prepare you for your first-impression that we will chat about more soon. First impressions are HUGE. And by having a short elevator pitch about who you are will help those you come in contact with, get a little glimpse into your heart and who you are.

So how do you make an Elevator Pitch this week? Let’s do it!!

I want you to go grab a piece of paper and answer the following questions:

  1. WHAT IS YOUR NAME?
  2. WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
  3. ARE YOU MARRIED? DO YOU HAVE CHILDREN? {If not, just skip this question}
  4. DO YOU WORK? ARE YOU A FULL-TIME STAY AT HOME MOM?
  5. WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO?

Once you have answered those 5 questions, you can put them together to form your pitch. For example, mine would look something like this:

Hi! My name is Danielle! I am actually from Las Vegas, but I just moved here to Utah a few months ago! I am married to my high school sweetheart and we have 2 miracle IVF babies! I run a community online for women who are passionate about finding joy & making real connections with the people around them! For fun, I like to go on long walks around Target alone and eat double stuffed oreos!

It’s a short, quick synopsis of who I am and what I am passionate about. After which, you should ALWAYS ALWAYS end your elevator pitch with a question for THEM to answer and for THEM to do the talking next. A few ideas for questions to ask them would be:

  1. TELL ME ABOUT YOU! WHERE ARE YOU FROM?!
  2. WHAT ABOUT YOU?! HAVE YOU LIVED HERE YOUR WHOLE LIFE?
  3. I WOULD LOVE TO GET TO KNOW YOU BETTER! WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO?
  4. ENOUGH ABOUT ME. TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF?!

This week, take some time and write out your elevator pitch. Think about who you REALLY are. What do you stand for? What are you passionate about? What makes YOU, YOU?!

You won’t go up to someone tomorrow and just give them your full elevator pitch – haha! This week we are just writing it out. But next week, we will be talking about how to present what you write out to someone you meet and how you can introduce yourself to them without it sounding completely sales-y and professional. We will make it fun & super personable.

Just like last week, don’t forget to share your elevator speech on Social Media! As you work on your little spiel this week, take a picture or record a video and post it on your Instagram or Facebook! Don’t forget to tag @todaysthebestday so I can see!

I am so excited for this exercise! Define YOU. Because girl, there really isn’t ANYONE out there as incredible, unique & amazing as YOU!! In a world you can be anything… BE YOURSELF!

xoxo Danielle
