Simple Steps to become your Super Self

Simple Steps to become your Super Self

Often times we use the word “perfect.” We say, “she has perfect clothes” or “she is seriously perfect…she does EVERYTHING!” or “she always looks so perfect.”  When you hear the word “perfect” what comes to your mind? Did you know that each of us probably think of something different when we hear that word? “PERFECT” is different for everyone! In fact, I know this because I think I look “perfect” with my extensions in and make-up on, where my husband can’t stand my extensions! In his eyes, perfect would mean my hair was in a pony tail every day. He is crazy though and that is another story. 😉

Cecil O. Samuelson said, “Interestingly, often those who struggle the most with issues of perfectionism are among the most talented people. They have often been excellent students, model children, and outstanding young people. Some, however, become so obsessed or consumed with their every thought, action, and response, that they may become far too extreme in their own perceptions of what is expected of them.”

I have seen many articles on, “HOW TO BE THE PERFECT GIRL” or “WAYS TO BE THE PERFECT WIFE” – but today, I have come to the realization that nobody is perfect. So often we compare ourselves to our neighbor or sisters – how much they can do or how much money they have. But does that mean they are perfect? Close to perfect, maybe…but really, probably just striving to be the best they can be.

When I think of someone flawless or someone I want to become, I think of Superman… or SuperWOman in my case. 🙂 I feel like Super Woman can do everything with her cute pink cape. She flies around all day zipping through life. She is able to accomplish everything and anything on her “to-do” list, takes all of the kids to their activities, bakes cookies and makes a five-course meal for family dinner, helps her children with homework, feeds the baby, plans special surprises for her husband and looks gorgeous for him, all while saving the day every step of the way! I want to be that! Why isn’t it that easy?

I have recently come to the realization that I may not be perfect, but I CAN do my very best and try to become my perfect self! Today I am calling it my SUPER SELF. Did you know that each of us have the greatest potential in this life to become anything we want to become?! It may take a lot of work and dedication, but we can!

Today I would like to introduce you to 5 Simple Steps to become your SUPER Self. What does SUPER mean anyways?

S – stands for STRENGTH: Strength to get up each morning and know that life isn’t going to be perfect. Strength to know that getting the kids ready for school, reading to your babies, kissing owies and coloring in coloring books is the best job you could ever ask for. Strength to know that the holes in your jeans, spit up on your shirt, poop on your hands and hair in a bun is a good thing, and your husband thinks its cute…or at least he should! 😉 Strength to get through the hard days of tantrums, crying and sadness. Strength to hold down the house. Strength to show your spouse you love them. Strength to know that you are not alone.

U – stands for UNDERSTAND. Understand that you are doing your best! Understand that Heavenly Father is proud of you! Understand that you can’t do everything in one day and the dishes or laundry may have to wait until tomorrow. Understand that time goes by quickly, even on the longest days, and to enjoy every minute.

P – stands for PLAY. Make sure you have fun! Be creative! Be spontaneous! Plan fun surprises! Do something nice for someone! Show love to your family! Make a memory and enjoy life! Smile a lot too… it makes you feel good! Marjorie Pay Hinckley said, “The only way to get through life is to laugh your way through it. You either have to laugh or cry. I prefer to laugh. Crying gives me a headache.”

Crying gives me a headache

E – stands for EAGER. Be eager to work hard. Be eager to become better. Be eager to stand up for what you believe in. Be eager to let those around you know you love them.

R – stands for REAL. Be the REAL you. Remember who you are. Each of us are different, which makes this world exciting! Don’t try to be someone else – work on what you love, what your passions are, what your talents are and be the very best YOU. The SUPER YOU.

I have learned that being a good wife, good friend, good spouse, a good person – actually means that we aren’t “perfect”. Because did you know that even Super Woman isn’t perfect?! Nobody is! Being your Super Self means you are going to make mistakes and you are going to learn from them. It means you recognize your faults and try to be better. It means you are going to be all that you can be!

We may not be perfect…but we can all strive to be SUPER!

I definitely needed to hear this. It is so easy to get caught in the trap of comparison and perfectionism. And I loved that Marjorie Pay Hinckley quote. She was such a sweetheart! Can’t wait to start following you 🙂

Being super is about just being yourself. People should quit trying to fit in everyone else’s mold.

You really hit the nail on the head, seriously this is so true. We all can get wrapped up in what everyone else thinks when in reality that is not what matters in the end. Great post!

    xoxo, Tara
