15 Things Every Mom of a Toddler Has In Common

I was at the grocery store the other day and saw a young mom with a bag around her shoulder, a purse on her arm and a screaming baby on her hip, all while trying to push a grocery cart around the store with her one hand. All I could say was, “I know EXACTLY how you feel.”

As a mom of a toddler {that thinks she is a teenager} there are moments where I feel alone. Whether I am at the grocery store with a tired baby, the park with an energetic child or just at home with a busy toddler – I often times can’t keep up and it gets a little overwhelming! But after seeing other moms, hearing other babies and witnessing hard-working, loving, fun and often times exhausted parents – I realize I am definitely not alone. We have ALL been there.

Whether you are an experienced mom of seven or a new mom of one – a toddler is going to be a toddler. They are fun and exciting, crazy and busy, funny and full blown hilarious, young and little, talented and smart and most of all…. a FUN FUN age.

If you are currently a mom of a toddler or have been a mom of a toddler before, you probably have experienced the following.

15 things every mom of a toddler has in common

15 THINGS EVERY MOM OF A TODDLER HAS IN COMMON:

1. YOU MIGHT BE A LITTLE CRAZY: Between emptying every toy box and scattering blocks all over the floor, putting sticky handprints all over your newly cleaned windows and glass doors, throwing clothes out of every drawer that you just found time to finally put away and spilled food and juice all over your newly mopped floors – you might be ready to pull your hair out a little.

2. YOU PROBABLY KNOW THE THEME SONG TO DOC MCSTUFFINS, JAKE AND THE NEVERLAND PIRATE AND/OR ALL THE SONGS TO FROZEN: You know that moment where the song comes on and your jammin’ out to the Disney Channel or Nickelodeon? Yes, we’ve all done it.

3. YOU MIGHT HAVE A DIRTY CAR: Crushed up crackers, melted yogurt bites, spilt applesauce and an old sippy cup are 99% guaranteed to be found in our cars.

4. IT MIGHT TAKE YOU 8 MINUTES SOMETIMES TO FIND YOUR KEYS INSIDE OF YOUR PURSE: That moment when you are rummaging through your entire purse to find your keys – you pull out diapers, wipes, candy, treats, a half drank water bottle, random dirty socks and an extra headband or two, only to realize you were holding your keys the entire time. #mombrain

5. YOU HAVE PROBABLY FELT 10 DIFFERENT EMOTIONS WITHIN 10 MINUTES: Feeling so proud of your toddler, then panic because they did something wrong, then upset, then angry, then stressed, then calm, then sorry, then tired, then happy, and all of the sudden you realize how much you LOVE them and you would do anything for them…. ANYTHING.

6. YOUR FACEBOOK AND/OR INSTAGRAM HAS MORE PICTURES OF YOUR BABY THEN YOURSELF: Guilty. Like WAY guilty. What mom isn’t?! They are so dang cute we have to document it!

7. YOU KNOW WHAT A BAD DAY IS: Those days you feel like you have got NOTHING done because all you did was try to keep the baby happy and busy….and sometimes just ALIVE.

8. BUT YOU KNOW WHAT A GOOD DAY IS: And then you have those days where you feel like you have got NOTHING done, but then you realize you kept a baby happy and busy…and sometimes just ALIVE. And that is something you should be proud of!

9. YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOUR CHILD IS TRYING TO SAY, EVEN WHEN IT SOUNDS NOTHING LIKE IT: “Bah, la, huh, no, boo.” Oh, she just said, “I love you mom and you are the best! And the capitol of the US is Washington DC.” They are SO smart! 🙂

10. YOU MAY FEEL A BIT INADEQUATE: A completely normal feeling. Every mom has felt it. But let me tell you – YOU are doing a good job! and YOU are doing everything you are supposed to be.

11. YOU HAVE DEFINITELY BEEN PEED, POOPED OR THROWN UP ON: It comes with the name, “MOM.” It’s in the job description and is something we all just kind of get used to.

12. YOU MAY LIKE TO JUST SIT IN THE CORNER JUST TO OBSERVE: You know those moments when you just sit and watch. You see her play with her doll and kiss it so sweetly. You see him play with his cars and say “zoooooom!” You see them “organizing” your books, your DVDs or toys and fall more in love with them as you see their little minds at work.

13. YOU 100% DESERVE A BREAK: Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. You deserve it. You need it.

14. YOU HAVE LAUGHED IN A CIRCUMSTANCE JUST TO KEEP YOURSELF FROM CRYING: Sometimes when things get so crazy as a mom you just have to stop and laugh – because you have two choices to laugh or cry. Don’t we all prefer to laugh?!

15. YOU KNOW WHAT REAL HAPPINESS FEELS LIKE: The giggles running down the hall, the hugs just because, the kisses goodnight, the books to be read, the movies to be watched, the toys to be played with, the memories that are made… makes you the happiest woman in the world.

I always thought the newborn stage was my favorite. I love the cuddles and I love how tiny they are! But now that I have a toddler, I think the toddler stage is my favorite. Because it just seems to get better and better!

As a mom of a toddler, what else would you add to this list?! I would love to hear from you!

Yes I have felt most of those. I have heard frozen songs over and over as well as JAKE AND THE NEVERLAND PIRATES. I have felt like screaming but it is like you said at the end I have felt true happiness! Kids are amazing!
